Leap 42.1 Installation

Leap 42.1
OpenSUSE Leap 42.1 has been released on 4th Nov 2015. It is build from source code of SLE (SUSE Linux Enterprise) and can be installed only on 64-bit Machine. Before this release there was no free enterprise distribution of SLE but after this release we can assume that Leap 42.1 is upstream project of SLE 12 SP1.

Features
GNOME 3.16 was purposefully put in openSUSE Leap 42.1 and it offers new visuals that are designed to integrate with the visual style of GNOME applications, for a more seamless experience. The Files application in GNOME 3.16 had a number of significant updates. The grid and list views are improved, which provide bigger thumbnails, easier to read rows, and a more attractive appearance. File deletion is also improved and provides an easy to discover undo feature. A built-in OpenGL support has arrived for GTK+. This allows applications that make heavy use of 3D graphics to be written in conjunction with GTK+, using the new GtkGLArea widget.

System Requirements
Processor – 32-bit i586 & 64-bit x86-64
CPU – Intel Pentium III 500 MHz or higher minimum & Pentium 4 2.4 GHz or any AMD64 or Intel64 CPU recommended.
RAM – 1 GB, 2 GB recommended
Hard drive –  3 GB for minimal system; 5 GB recommended for standard system
Starting with Leap 42.1 (after version 13.2), openSUSE will be built for 64-bit architectures only, and hence will not run on older hardware without 64-bit support.
Official support for PowerPC (PPC) processors was dropped after openSUSE 11.1

OpenSUSE Information

OpenSUSE
SUSE Linux is a computer operating system. It is built on top of the open source Linux kernel and is distributed with system and application software from other open source projects. SUSE Linux is of German origin and mainly developed in Europe. The name “S.u.S.E” was originally a German acronym for “Software und System-Entwicklung”, meaning “Software and systems development”. However, the full name has never been used and the company has always been known as “S.u.S.E”, shortened to “SuSE” in October 1998 and more recently “SUSE”.
